For the past few months the elders have been thinking about the rear portion of the church property. We hardly ever use the rear portion of our property between our parking lot and theWhite Rock Hills Library and it does not appear that we will have a use for it in the foreseeable future. After discussing this, the elders have decided to list the property for sale. The realtor plans to put one or two signs on Ferguson Road to generate interest in the property. We wanted to let everyone know this so no one will become alarmed and think we are trying to sell the church building. The only property for sale will be the rear portion. If the property sells then we will put the proceeds into our endowment fund, which will help to secure the financial stability of our congregation for the future. In another matter, the elders have already brought the following information to the attention of the congregation once but we wanted to do it again and ask for everyone’s consideration in this. Beginning with the first Sunday in 2018 we would like to ask everyone to sit in the center section of the auditorium during our worship times. We understand that members are used to sitting in certain places and do not like to change. We believe there are several legitimate reasons to ask everyone to do this and to request your cooperation.
1. We believe this will enhance our fellowship and enable us to get to know one another better. When we are sitting close to each other it will naturally lead to talking with each other more. It may be a bit uncomfortable at first but it will be good to build better relationships with each other in our church family.
2. We believe it will make our singing even better than it is. When you are sitting closer to others who are singing well then it encourages you to sing more. Everyone loves good singing! We certainly need to remember God’s teaching to us about the importance of singing in our worship. It is for God but also for us as indicated in Colossians 3:16, “ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
3. We have quite a bit of waste each Sunday with the bread and grape juice of the Lord’s Supper because we have to prepare so many trays to cover the whole auditorium. By having everyone in the center section we can reduce the number of trays and reduce any waste of these items. We hope that everyone understands our rationale for these decisions. If you have any questions or comments about either of these matters, please feel free to speak to any of the elders.
